who we are
The National Studygroup for Pain in NICU’s came into being following the symposium “Care of the Newborn” in Utrecht (The Netherlands) in 1993. The title of the aforesaid symposium was “Pain .... bitterly necessary?!” During the preparations for the symposium it became clear that there was a definite demand for a national deliberation over pain in the newborn. All 10 NICU’s (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) in the Netherlands were invited to take part in this new working party. All 10 NICU’s gave a positive reaction and so the NSPN became fact. The NSPN consists of nurse representatives of each of the 10 NICU’s, together with a neonatologist to cover medical issues. Also each nurse representative has consultation with a neonatal specialist in their own hospital.
The NSPN has in its 10 year existence developed a number of services and products.
This websites aim is to inform care professionals in all aspects of pain in the newborn. The latest information about the NSPN can be found on this website. Furthermore it is possible to order aforementioned products.
